Barred Owl

Since we moved in to our present home at the Fells we have been aware of owls in the neighborhood. A visual of one was not to be had until today!! I was sitting on my sofa writing my garden tour commentaries and saw something out of the corner of my eye.. a rather large fellow hunting.. I had just said to Henry this morning that my New Year's resolution was to spot an owl this year..Henry was looking up night vision ocular devices that we decided against because of the price. Here we are on day 2.. and voila! He was breathtaking.. it was almost as if he was posing.. Henry obliged with the camera shots while I sat mesmerized looking through binoculars. It is a Barred Owl and he was about 18 to 20 inches high his wingspan was over 3.5 feet. Here's hoping he was vole hunting!

This afternoon's showers ended and left behind this great looking rainbow. Thanks to Kay Steeves for taking these great photos. Rainbows are notoriously difficult to photograph well. Enjoy!

Recently we contracted Freedom Groundworks Landscaping of Amherst to design and install a new patio outside our back walkout basement room. Here are some photos of the work that they did.

Overall we were very happy with the work done by Tom Roberts and crew. We would highly recommend Freedom Groundworks to anyone looking to have a patio installed. You can read our review of Freedom Groundworks Landscaping here.

Any given day at the Fells you can see a sunset like this - as long as the sun is shining that is. And we can now share a couple of moonrises along with a great photo of the moon Thanks to Brian Moyer.

These photos were taken between 5/26/2010 and 7/13/2010 with a Canon D10 and 28-135 mm lense .
